An Australian professional photographer based in Brisbane's high-growth southwest corridor, but willing to travel, I specialise in location shoots for editorial, commercial and corporate clients across southeast Queensland and beyond. Predominantly my work encompasses landscape photography, tourism and hospitality photography (including hotels and resorts) and architectural and interiors photography (from project showcases for architectural studios and interior designers to creating marketing images for developers and shooting high-end residential real estate). If you're interested in utilising my services, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
My personal projects often centre around fine art landscape photography, resulting in print releases at f13 Gallery with customers - within Australia and from overseas - ranging from private collectors to corporate organisations and government departments.
I also enjoy travel photography (which I sometimes combine with travel writing, drawing on my print journalism background, including on my blog Explore. Dream. Discover.) and maintain a stock photography library, licensing images via this website for both full creative usage (ie advertising/marketing purposes) or editorial-only usage.
Driven by my commitment to providing the ultimate in client satisfaction and strong belief in continuous professional development, I hold Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) accreditation and actively participate in workshops, seminars and other industry events as well as using the state and national awards programs for benchmarking purposes.
Due to my passion for the tourism and hospitality industry, and a desire to stay abreast of relevant trends and client needs within this segment, I am also a Ecotourism Australia business member, a Queensland Hotels Association corporate member and a Skal International associate member.
Perhaps ironic given that I grew up about 500km inland in Central Western NSW, learned to ride a bicycle in a dry river bed and have never been a strong swimmer let alone ever tried to surf, I've developed a strong connection with water and it is a theme that runs through much of my photography.
I love that water offers such a wide array of creative options for a photographer, for example: macro shots of droplets, freezing a splash for time eternity, capturing beautiful reflections and, perhaps my favourite, using long exposure techniques to show the flow of a stream or waterfall and create misty effects in seascapes where the ocean swirls around rocks or laps at the sand on a beach.
In complete contrast though less surprisingly perhaps, given my early years in the Australian bush, award-winning images produced during a road trip across Arizona in 2013 suggest that as a photographer I also have a particular affinity with the desert landscape.
Both natural and built environments inspire me as a photographer, hence my passion for architectural photography also, and I find a certain symmetry in my tourism and hospitality photography work in that it regularly presents an opportunity to incorporate landscape and architectural photography with lifestyle and human elements, while also bringing to the fore my own personal love of travel, new experiences and truly savouring life.
On rare occasions when I have a little down time, I enjoy simple pleasures: relaxing with my wife Paula, visiting new places, running, hiking, eating pizza and cheering for Australia in Test cricket (my first love).
Me in a nutshell
Born: NSW Central West.
Raised: NSW Southern Highlands.
Based: Greater Springfield, Queensland.
Education: Never enough and always ongoing.
First job: Newspaper journalism cadetship, aged 17.
First overseas travel: Summer of village cricket in England, playing more than 40 matches in 4 months, aged 19.
First foray into photography: When my first editor unexpectedly handed me a camera ... but the love for it started to grow during my early travels.
Favourite travel adventure to date: Hiking from the South Rim to the Colorado River and back to the South Rim on the same day at the Grand Canyon with Paula (yes, probably ill advised, but what an accomplishment - especially lugging about 15kg of camera equipment on my back) via the South Kaibab Trail and Bright Angel Trail.
