G'DAY, I'M FRED ...
I believe in creating imagery that tells a story, generates emotion and is memorable. Multi international award-winning and internationally published, my photography features in advertising campaigns through to magazine articles and I am available for work on location across southeast Queensland - Brisbane, Ipswich, the Scenic Rim, the Gold Coast, the Moreton Bay region and the Sunshine Coast - as well as throughout the rest of Australia and overseas.
Based in Springfield Lakes within Brisbane's booming southwest corridor, Landscape Photography is a major passion. As a commercial photographer I also specialise in Tourism & Hospitality Photography (for example, for tourism authorities, hotels and resorts, other accommodation providers, tour companies, festival and events, restaurants and cooking schools, and much more) as well as Architectural & Interiors Photography (for example, for architects, interior designers, property developers and astute real estate agents selling prestige homes). I have also produced images for other clients ranging from advertising agency work to minor projects for local small business in Greater Springfield.
Driven by my commitment to true professionalism and providing the ultimate in client satisfaction, as well as a strong belief in continuous professional development, I hold Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) accreditation and actively participate in workshops, seminars and other industry events as well as using the state and national awards programs for benchmarking purposes.
Due to my passion for the tourism and hospitality industry, and a desire to stay abreast of relevant trends and client needs within this segment, I am also a Ecotourism Australia business member and a Skal International associate member.
If you're interested in commissioning my photography services, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'd be happy to email you my commercial photography services price list or discuss your specific needs to prepare a customised package. Please note: travel fees apply only for shoots that take place more than 100km from Brisbane CBD.
Additionally I enjoy editorial travel photography (which I sometimes combine with travel writing, drawing on my print journalism background, including on my blog Explore. Dream. Discover.) and maintain a Stock Photography Library featuring destination, event and lifestyle/leisure images for licensing via this website either for full creative usage (ie advertising/marketing purposes) or editorial-only usage as appropriate.
My personal projects often centre around my great love for fine art landscape photography, resulting in print releases at f13 Gallery with customers - within Australia and from overseas - ranging from private collectors to corporate organisations and government departments. Eighteen 36-inch by 24-inch prints has been the largest order received to date.
Through my f13 Gallery publishing arm, I'm also able to produce quality products for my commercial clients such as corporate calendars and postcards, for example incorporating hotel or resort branding.
ME IN A NUTSHELL
Born: Central West NSW.
Raised: Southern Highlands, NSW.
Based: Greater Springfield, southeast Queensland.
Education: Never enough and always ongoing.
First job: Newspaper journalism cadetship, aged 17.
First overseas travel: Summer of village cricket in England, playing more than 40 matches in four months, aged 19.
First foray into photography: When my first editor unexpectedly handed me a camera ... but the love for it started to grow during my early travels.
Favourite things to do away from photography: On rare occasions when I have a little down time, I enjoy simple pleasures ... relaxing with my wife Paula, visiting new places, running, hiking, eating pizza and cheering for Australia in Test cricket (my first love).
Favourite travel adventure to date: Hiking from the South Rim to the Colorado River and back to the South Rim on the same day at the Grand Canyon with Paula (yes, probably ill advised, but what an accomplishment - especially lugging about 15kg of camera equipment on my back) via the South Kaibab Trail and Bright Angel Trail.
"Fred not only takes the most beautiful photos, but he 100% fills the brief he is given. But all this aside, I believe that Fred's greatest strength is his total professionalism when dealing with a hard client. As a developer, we have ever changing last minute deadlines, and Fred's ability to happily adapt quickly to continue to suit our requirements was what made him so great to work with.
"We benchmark ourselves to produce nothing but quality projects and to continue to grow and push our business, and strongly believe that Fred's business and skills are perfectly aligned with our principles. You can tell by the care he takes with his photos, that he will accept and produce nothing but the best from his own work.
"I would have absolutely no hesitation to recommend Fred, we will most definitely be continuing our working relationship in the future."

"I was recommended to Fred by an extremely happy client of his. Our company had worked with a range of photographers in the past with mixed results. As a worldwide company that has its head office in Australia, our global image is extremely important. Fred McKie not only meets our expectations, he exceeds them every time. He is friendly yet serious, fun yet professional, and is extremely patient and respectful to all he is working with. Fred, thank you for making us look good."
— Joel Knott, co-director of Hail.com
"We contacted Fred to quote on photography required for our resort website and marketing and we very impressed with the way he qualified our requirements when he visited us. He established, through a series of questions, exactly what it was we were trying to create and made suggestions that helped us achieve our goal. The two days of the photo shoot went smoothly with Fred tirelessly working from before sunrise to after sunset to get those perfect shots. Were we happy with the end results? We loved them! Many people have commented on the great photos and we love to tell them about Fred and his professionalism and his creative style."
