thank you for using THE Australian Institute of Professional Photography'S SEARCH FOR A PRO FACILITY
As a photographer, I love exploring new places and creating memorable imagery that tells a story and generates emotion. My international travel photography archives include Southwest America, but shooting travel images within Australia - including my own back yard which stretches from Noosa to Brisbane - is equally rewarding.
G'day, I'm Fred McKie, an AIPP-accredited photographer with a reputation for creating vibrant, high-clarity travel images and also the ability to write for publication.
Thank you for clicking through to my website via the AIPP Search For A Pro facility. I welcome the opportunity to be of value to you.
I am very lucky to have a "backyard" that is so beautiful - including Noosa, the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Brisbane - but in addition to exploring what's on my doorstep with my camera in hand, I love creating beautiful images from other parts of the rest of the world too, whether on assignment, on spec or purely for my personal pleasure.
Editors should note that I also have writing skills and more than two decades' experience in print journalism - reporting, sub-editing and page layout - including key production roles on the Escape travel liftout for News Limited's Sunday papers.
While primarily a commercial photographer - with much of my work relating to the travel industry, including creating hotel/resort and destination marketing images - I absolutely welcome the chance to shoot travel images in an editorial style, such as those from America shown on this page, whether on self-commissioned trips or for clients.
Every opportunity to combine my love of photography with my love of travel is wonderful.
Travel has been a passion since I first ventured overseas, solo, aged 19. I've lived in the United Kingdom, traveled within the European Continent, honeymooned in the Caribbean, been to the United States three times, and ticked off all Australian states and territories except Tasmania and the NT. Yet that's just the tip of the iceberg ... there's still so many places on this beautiful planet I dream about visiting, exploring and photographing.
My favourite travel photography adventure to date is hiking from the South Rim to the Colorado River and back to the South Rim on the same day at the Grand Canyon, lugging about 15kg of camera equipment on my back.
Southwest USA has indeed proven to be a favourite destination, with Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon particular favourites, while the Whitsundays, Tassie, Central Australia and New Zealand's South Island are all high on my photography bucket list - and there are too many other places to possibly list!
My travel photography has been awarded in the AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards, the International Loupe Awards and the International Pano Awards as well as being exhibited both in Brisbane and Sydney. It has also been licensed by Expedia and published in international titles such as Afar (USA), Cuisine (NZ), Discovery (Cathay Pacific in-flight magazine) and Mabuhay (Philippine Airlines in-flight magazine).
To me, travel photography is an observation of people, places and culture. It encompasses the architecture and the landscape, fashion, food, lifestyle, interesting characters and ordinary folk going about their lives. It's about connecting the viewer to a destination; providing an introduction, arousing a curiosity, creating a longing or rekindling a memory.
