Feast your eyes on fertile region's promotion of local produce

The Scenic Rim’s produce showcase, Eat Local Week, is happening again at the end of this month - during the Queensland June-July school holidays.

This fantastic event highlights the fabulous flavours of this fertile region, which produces a bounty of fruit and vegetables, wines, milk and gourmet products such as olives, cheeses, jams and relishes - and all on Brisbane’s doorstep.

This small gallery of images are from the 2013 edition of the week’s signature event, the Winter Harvest Festival at Aratula, which features producers, suppliers, retailers and chefs from across the region and offers visitors the opportunity to literally eat their way around the Scenic Rim.

In addition to tasting plates, wines and fresh produce, the event usually offers a tractor-pulling competition - pitting teams against a 12-tonne tractor - for some farm-focused fun. It’s a relaxed day out for families and food lovers, with cooking demonstrations and a smorgasbord of fresh produce.

In 2013, Brisbane-based food consultant and blogger Alison Alexander and Restaurant II owner and executive chef David Pugh teamed up for a cooking demonstration.

In 2014 celebrity chef Alastair McLeod was one hand and last year QAGOMA executive chef Josh Lopez presented a cooking demonstration.

Eat Local Week 2015 runs from June 27 to July 5.
