This is the perfect time of year for a romantic weekend getaway in beautiful Montville, high up in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Southeast Queensland has some really beautiful spots that lend themselves to a stay during the cooler months, but Montville is arguably the pick of the bunch. There is an undeniable appeal to the combination of leisurely walks in the rainforest, luxurious accommodation, log fires, spa baths and breakfast hampers filled with wonderful local produce.
For me, Montville definitely ranks alongside Mount Tamborine in the Gold Coast Hinterland as a destination of choice for a winter escape.
As a commercial photographer, I've been lucky enough to photograph boutique tourism accommodation in both villages including Queensland Tourism Hall of Fame inductees Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat and the delightful Avocado Sunset B&B. I really enjoy this type of work, as much as I do shooting for hotels and resorts, as there's generally more of a personal touch. The owners are hugely invested in the business and always so very accommodating.
On my last trip to Montville, earlier this year, I photographed a series of images for a destination marketing campaign by Montville Getaways, a collective marketing group involving the owners of several of the very best accommodation options in the village - including Narrows Escape. Some of the images I created featured in a billboard campaign.
With Profoto OCF B1s and B2s enabling considerable control over lighting at various pre-planned locations, and two assistants in tow to enable quick transitions, it was a fun lifestyle photoshoot that featured two models sourced from StarNow - a real-life couple - and despite battling gloomy overcast skies all day we managed to create some really nice images.
We shot at Maleny Botanic Gardens with a macaw (sadly no view of the Glass House Mountains due to the weather), Lillypillys in a cottage spa, Clouds of Montville in a Balinese-style pavilion (during which I got drenched by a sudden downpour), Secrets on the Lake with log fire roaring, Kondalilla National Park for a bushwalking scene and Montville main street outside the Montrose water wheel. Mark Skinner from Narrows Escape even captured some behind-the-scenes video during the photoshoot!
